In 2026, Singapore is expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping the global landscape of AI regulation and research. Building on its established policy frameworks and governance initiatives, Singapore continues to promote the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies, with an emphasis on transparency, accountability and ethical use.
Alongside regulatory engagement, Singapore is also hosting significant international AI research events. Notably, Singapore began 2026 by hosting the 40th Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (“AAAI”) Conference on Artificial Intelligence (“AAAI-26”), which took place from 20 to 27 January 2026. The conference brought together researchers, practitioners and policymakers from around the world for a programme of technical papers, workshops, tutorials and panel discussions addressing advances in AI, as well as ethical, societal and governance considerations associated with AI development and deployment.
Singapore’s approach to regulation and research reflects a coordinated approach to AI governance. By fostering dialogue between policymakers, technologists and industry stakeholders, Singapore is contributing to the development of AI systems that support innovation while addressing emerging legal and ethical challenges.
These developments highlight Singapore’s growing significance as a hub where AI research, regulation and international engagement converge, with increasing relevance for businesses, policymakers and the international dispute resolution community.
